CBL Evaluation

The CBL was a good way to apply the different aspects of the government that we learned in class to a actual agency or business. It was very use full in certain parts of our curriculum but didn't apply to some of the blog topics and textbook topics which made it sort of difficult. But when you were able to make a connection it helped you understand something more further to how it applied and how it really works.

Interacting with my CP, Goodwill made the content in the course more meaningful because it carried more value because you can put a face or corporation to the things you are reading about. Seeing how things work help understand them more, making a greater impact in your mind.

I was very happy to learn more about goodwill and help volunteer at the distribution center and local Santa Cruz store. I also have received many tax deduction receipts from donating clothes and also purchasing items from goodwill made the experience more personal. Seeing what goes behind the whole goodwill production and the many options they offer to people who haven't had the best job opportunities.

Government influence over Goodwill

The government does play a key role in the running of goodwill. Goodwill offers tax deductions run by the IRS, a government instituted program that could for some reason take away a key aspect in why people may donate clothes. Possibly taking away a chunk of donators will impact the quality and quantity of its merchandise hurting sales, and a ripple effect takes place. Where sales might go down possibly laying off people and cutting the program they offer.

Goodwill educational programs in the job field. All educational programs that provide some sort of degree or certificate even Goodwills education and career building programs must be certified and go through inspection to make sure they are up to the qualifications the government division puts in to place just like the schools we attend must go through to make sure they are up to date and teach its students all they need to know so there graduation means something. In order for your completion certificate or degree to actually be valuable when applying for jobs or trying to go to the next level of education it must be approved by the government if it isn't then it just a piece of paper.

I also believe the government always has a sort of power a business or service. Causing it to have to go through different regulations or polices they must follow if they want to remain in business. Even a McDonalds must follow regulations by the health department and if it does not it will be shut down the government agency.

The Judicial Process

Goodwill has gone to the judicial process as resolving problems due to employee disagreements with the corporation. But just like a business there are times when there are issues within the store or corporation and those who run it that may cause for a need of the judicial process to step in and resolve a issue with a former employee

Wrongful termination and several different lawsuits is something many businesses have a issue with and so has goodwill in the past at certain stores and centers because it is essentially a business that must deal with many different operations and people that probably at one point or another may grow mixed feeling about a certain issue that would result in legal action.

Goodwill and the Public Entity

The Public entity plays a huge role over any business or government. With the support of a community then a business may go bankrupt with no one to support its services or products, which pays for their employees. If a certain government figure or program is not supported by the community a candidate may not be re-elected or a certain program may get negative feedback causing community backlash and a change in the program.

Goodwill directly relies on the public and its donations. The community donates all sorts of household items which goodwill resells to receive profit to fund its employees and career programs. The consistency of the community is all dependent of its local donations and the residents involvement. A estimated 639,000 individuals donated to goodwill in 2007 and a estimate 28,231,000 pounds of donations. There are always daily donations being received due to goodwills involvement in the community and the quality that comes with the name. Without the donations by the public goodwill would not be able to continue to fund its career opportunities and education programs.

The public entity is directly helping those pursue greater education and career development that they other might not have received. And have been able to open up more cash productivity thanks to the jobs they help fund. The public is responsible for everything goodwill has to offer and without them they would not be able to offer the quality and many programs it has today.

Taxes and Goodwill

Goodwill does not raise funds through taxation because it does not have the authority like many of other government agencies may have or companies. They do however provide tax deductions for those who volunteer at their local goodwill store or donate clothes or any household items.

The tax deductions is a offering that many organizations offer  for those who donate and volunteer. Yet another reason to donate to your local goodwill, that draws in people to help them out when its time to turn your taxes in. Even though they issue the tax deduction receipt they are not authorized to give you a value for your donation due to IRS regulations but you still receive a receipt to receive your tax deduction.

This is the only the way goodwill is related to tax functions that is legal and appreciated by its many customers and donators. Who doesn't love getting more money on their tax refund check?

Conflict with the local and state relationships

My community partner has now changed to Goodwill local stores and distribution center in Santa Cruz California. Goodwill is right away known as a place you can drop off old clothes, volunteer and possibly buy things for a lower price. But Goodwill in addition to being a store has many different business aspects within it.

It provides several career opportunity to those with disabilities and those who have been to jail. Providing classes and career experience to those who other wise wouldn't receive it. Shoreline the educational courses is approved by the California State Department of Consumer Affairs as a Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Educational Institution, and its services are accredited by CARF, The Accreditation Commission. There goal is education and job training services is to assist people in securing career track employment in the competitive labor market.

Even though goodwill offers and receives services in the local and sate government, they do not essentially get involved in the conflict between state and local government. They do have to interact between the two but never directly get involved.

Legislative Changes with your Community Partner

To what I know and have asked the goodwill corporation it has not tried to make any legislature changes nor has it attempted to.
